  • At the bottom of this photo are two globular star clusters: the M7 Ptolemy Cluster on the left and the M6 Butterfly Cluster on the right. Near the upper right corner you see a couple of nebulae: the M8 Lagoon Nebula and M20 Trifid Nebula. Roughly halfway between the globular clusters at the bottom and the nebulae at the top lies the central bulge of our Milky Way Galaxy.

  • Panoramic view of the Milky Way stretching over Cathedral Gorge in Nevada during the Las Vegas Astronomical Society's annual star party. There were truly dark skies at Cathedral Gorge with bright stars from horizon to horizon. However, even at nearly 200 miles away, the light pollution from Las Vegas still managed to wash out the southwestern horizon at the bottom of this panorama. Even so, I'd give anything for skies that dark every night. View one of the larger sizes or even the original size to get a better view.
